ABOUT BOOKBINDING BOOK REPAIR AND RESTORATION:
In 1985 Harry (Sonny) Lerner began the Drama Learning Center, a children's performing arts school. In 2001, he sold the business and began to write "Let's Put on a Play", an educational how-to book for teachers and parents. When completed, Sonny had the book bound with the typical plastic spiral binders at the local office supply store. Sonny was proud of his book, but not happy with it's plastic look.
Sonny searched the internet to have one copy of his book beautifully bound in the traditional hard cover, cloth look. Professional bookbinding companies found the job too small. Finally, Sonny found one company that sold bookbinding materials. He bought a bookbinding construction kit and attempted to bind his book. Although the bookbinding process was rewarding and the "Let's Put on a Play" book turned out to be elegant, the sketchy directions were frustrating and the price of the construction kit was exorbitant.
After purchasing more kits, Sonny wrote and constructed more books. It was at that point that Sonny said, "I can write better directions then these!" He then wrote "Bookbinding for Beginners: An Illustrated Step-By-Step Guide". In addition, after researching the price of the supplies and materials, Sonny said, "I can put together a higher quality, less expensive construction kit. He then developed the "Bookbinding for Beginners Construction Kit". Finally, Sonny decided to put his knowledge and products on the internet by publishing Bookbinding For Beginners where the visitor can learn about bookbinding, start to construct a book, and purchase quality supplies, tools, and materials.
As time passed, many of the visitors to Bookbinding For Beginners wanted to know where they could purchase a repair kit instead of a construction kit. Again, Sonny researched repair kits and again found them to be expensive and not instructive. Therefore, Sonny developed the Bookbinding Book Repair and Restoration web site where visitors could learn about repairing books and purchasing book repair materials.
